Mid 12th Century. Aleppo, Syria.

Named after the find‑spot (Tell Minis) of a cache near Aleppo but produced at unidentified centers, this luster is characterized by a reddish hue because of its low silver content. Stonepaste; luster-painted on transparent glaze. H. 2 1/8 in. ( 5.4 cm) Diam. 8 in. (20.3 cm). Accession no. 66.37.

12th Century. Formerly attributed to Iran. Now thought to be Syrian. Stonepaste; carved, incised, polychrome painted under a transparent glaze (Laqabi ware). H. 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm) W. 7 7/8 in. (20 cm). Accession no. 1979.210.








 

12th Century. Syria. Earthenware; molded, modeled, glazed in turquoise. With winged griffins and inscriptions. Inscribed on each side with: Perpetual prosperity. H. 8 1/8 in. (20.6 cm) W. 11 7/8 in. (30.2 cm) D. 10 in. (25.4 cm). Accession no. 57.61.13.

Second half of the 12th Century. Raqqa, Syria. Stonepaste; glazed in transparent colorless glaze, in-glaze- and luster-painted, with scratches in the luster. Inscription in kufic, untranslated "blessings". Inscription in naskhi, untranslated. H. 3 5/16 in. (8.4 cm) W. 7 1/16 in. (17.9 cm) D. 5 7/8 in. (14.9 cm) Wt. 15.5 oz. (439.5 g).
